Narrative Essay Writing: How to Excel in Writing Stories
Have you ever told a story to someone? If your answer is positive, then you almost understand what narrative essay writing is. The term “almost” has a purpose in this context, as telling a story is not the same as writing it.
Nevertheless, the essence of narrative essay writing is the same, i.e. storytelling. Despite simplicity, there are common conventions and rules in narrative essay writing. In that regard, this article will provide the main rules of narrative essay writing.
The Rules of Narrative Essay Writing
The following rules can be considered as common in narrative essay writing:
- Narrative essay writing implies following the structure of the essay, in terms of introduction, main body and conclusion, and at the same time containing the main elements of the story, such as plot, characters, setting, and ending.
- Narrative essay writing implies having a purpose for the story, which can be connected to a context, larger than the personal significance of such story. For example, the personal importance of a story, in which you was enrolled in a respected university, is different from the larger importance of a story showing the results of hard work. The contents of the stories might be the same, with the exception that the importance of the latter justifies reading the story. In the first case is unlikely.
- Narrative essay writing implies rich usage of descriptive language, and particular stylistic elements. The purpose of such elements can be seen in raising the interest of the readers, in a way that the story is not read as a report. The story should be enjoyable to read, and thus, the task of the reader to use descriptive language to enrich the elements of the story, i.e. the characters, the setting, etc.
