Actually, medical research is like a roller coaster. You either enjoy it, or get sick of it. One of my friends, a first year student of a medical university, once crept into the lab to look at the corps. Well, I have to tell you she had problems with appetite for quite a while after that. But you need to realize: once you really get interested in the topic and start working on it with the desire to offer some innovations, the insight will come to you.

Don’ts of medical researches

There are no secrets of medical research. You just need to realize that the topic you have chosen is actually the one you can handle. Running ahead of time and doing something that will be considered a hero-like investigation is certainly worth praising, but unless you are a total medical genius we urge you to follow the schedule. Otherwise you will end up with a pretentious medical research topic that will interest your teacher, but with poor work as a consequence of poor preparation. And it will by no doubts result on your grade. Better go slower, but do a good medical research.

Be prepared to struggle with lack of literature if you choose an exclusive topic. Standing out is welcomed, but as long as your medical research corresponds to its hooking heading. Lack of sources usually means some personal theories and practical experiments you will have to handle on your own, and if you are ready to do them, this will work on you. If you are not sure in yourself yet, stick to basics. (more…)

Hopefully, this will not shock you too much, but almost every student at a particular moment starts blaming school, college, university or any abstract academic institution for taking away too much time and leaving nothing in return. And here you are, sitting over your academic research paper, and asking yourself philosophical questions about the practical profit from homework assignments, instead of actually completing one that lies in front of you. You will probably be even more surprised to find out that academic research papers actually do have a purpose.

Academic Research Papers – Reasons to Be Tolerant:

Reason #1. Academic research papers fulfill their primary asset, and that is – to provide you with a decent grade to pass the class and earn credit. Signed up for a certain subject – be polite enough to complete all of the assigned papers given by your teacher. After all, this system is quite tolerant. You did not study in Japan. So be nice and start appreciating academic research papers.

Reason #2. Experience in writing – this is what any academic paper gives you, and an academic research paper is no exception here. The more you put into it, and the more you write, the faster you will get over the writer’s block and start feeling comfortable with writing.

Reason #3. Academic research papers can reveal something that you did not suspect about yourself. And that is your talent in scholarly research. Most of the students possessing strong analytical skills are usually the last ones to find out about it. Academic research papers develop abilities to investigate, evaluate, and summarize. A dissertation is not a dissertation without a dissertation proposal. Before you actually dive into writing the main paper, you have to prove that the problem you are investigating is one of a kind and that it is interesting and worth studying. This is what dissertation proposals do – they introduce the problem and its importance.

As to the structure of a dissertation proposal, there are several important things. First of all, do not try to be creative in Introduction. Dissertations proposals are scholarly works. Narration and imagination are not appreciated. On the other hand, brevity and clarity are just something that dissertation proposals require. Try to step into the main question. It has to be stated in context of today’s popularity as well as importance for further investigations.

A problem has to be first of all stated. Dissertation proposal also require to define a problem and prove that it is indeed original, there are no or little investigations, and that the work will impact the field greatly.

Among other things you have to state in the dissertation proposal there is terminology. Several of the most important terms have to be defined before you start sharing your own concepts.

Methodology is the important part of any dissertation proposal. As a researcher you have to prove your own strategy for developing a topic. The research you conducted has to be described in details, according to the steps you were taking. No matter what a subject is, research papers usually fall into two types. At least that’s what specialists believe to be true. This is why when talking about types of research papers we usually presuppose analytical and argumentative papers. Both being somewhat alike, they however have some crucial differences. The necessity to understand these differences appears in the very beginning – when you start gathering data to do a research.

First from two types of research papers is the analytical paper. It’s essence is easy to understand. Basically it is your personal vision, evaluation and analysis of the gathered information. Before writing you have to become determined with the topic. It has to be something interesting but neutral; something that you haven’t made up your mind about yet. This kind of freedom will let you think critically and dive into details to dig out the answers. In other words, a topic itself has to become a research question. While gathering information and working on facts, you will pay more attention to the points of view of scholars. In the end, however, you will have to summarize everything in your own words through your own vision and position. (more…)

If you stall believe that dissertation writing starts from the Title page, I will disappoint you. Any dissertation writing starts from writing a dissertation research proposal. One of the reasons to do so is to get funding. If you don’t pursue financial interests, you will be bound with another reason – to receive institutional review and ethic approval. Basically, a research proposal is some kind of a persuasive prediction as to what your future dissertation writing is going to look like. And certainly you will have to follow a clear pattern of rules that your university requires.

The first part of the research proposal writing is the introduction. And since you value your and your reader’s time, you should get straight to the point. Formulate your main idea, or main question, clearly. Your job is to explain persuasively enough why your topic is important today, and how it will help your followers in future.

State the problem. Describe how and by whom it has already been investigated (the less research there was the better for you). Give a summary of the good researches conducted on the same topic, share some terminology learned, introduce the main theories and fight them back with your own theoretical predictions.

You are already familiar with the research. The further actions, however, are not yet clear. This is why you will need to explain the reader, what your steps are going to be, and how they will help you get to the very essence of the problem investigated. (more…)
